MONTREAL ACQUIRES TOP DEFENSEMAN IN ROUSSEL

When it came time for the Montreal Juniors to make their first round pick at the QMJHL entry draft I was surprised to hear commissioner Gilles Courteau say, "we have a trade to announce".

The trade: Montreal sent Loic Poudrier (F), Dillon Donnelly (D), their 1st round pick in 2010 and their 4th round pick in 2011 to the Shawinigan Cataractes in exchange for all-star defenseman Charles-Olivier Roussel (seen in photo).

Roussel, a 2009 2nd round draft pick of the Nashville Preditors, is considered one of the strongest defensemen in the Q and will have a chance to represent Canada in the January 2011 WJHC.

Since breaking into the QMJHL Roussel has enjoyed 3 productive years:
Season : GP / G / A / PTS
2007-2008: 50 / 3 / 13 / 16
2008-2009: 68 / 11 / 33 / 44
2009-2010: 64 / 15 / 36 / 51

Roussel will provide Montreal with a huge offensive boost from the blue line, something they have yet to experience since being relocated to Montreal.
